This week has been a reminder of how much collective clarity matters when the landscape around us continues to shift — budgets tightening, collaboration with partners, operational issues arising, and communities needing certainty from us even when we don’t yet have all the answers.
Across every conversation — COSLA, SOLACE, services, budget work, elections planning, resilience, and government forums — the thread running through has been the importance of staying grounded, keeping lines of communication open, and helping one another cut through complexity.
Scottish Budget and Local Government Settlement
Much of the week centred on interpreting the emerging budget picture and the implications for Argyll and Bute. There has been active discussion across Scottish Council Leaders through COSLA, with differing narratives on real‑terms changes and political positioning. We continue to focus on a clear, factual interpretation of what the settlement means for us, recognising pressures in areas such as social work, waste, and directed funding streams.
Thank you to colleagues who have been working at pace to analyse moving parts and assess risks, particularly where savings have shifted or become less deliverable. Your clarity is what allows members and communities to understand the trade‑offs ahead. We’ll share more information in due course, but here’s the COSLA budget reality summary for now.
