The council has such fantastically diverse services and skills that I could speak to you about countless things in my weekly updates. Today however I would like to focus on just one thing; one thing that affects us all, and that depends on us all – cyber security.
We all to some extent or another need council systems to do our jobs, and to deliver the day-to-day services communities need. We use digital systems to communicate with each other, to manage transactions, to get decisions made, and for so many other aspects of doing our work.
As you may be aware, the work of other organisations, including councils, has been hugely disrupted in recent years by cyber attacks.
Our ICT Team works hard in different ways to protect our systems from the potential risks that reach our systems daily.
ICT alone however cannot keep our systems safe from attack. It takes every one who uses council systems to look after them.

If you have not already done the Mimecast training mentioned in it, please do it. It is split into modules of about 3 minutes to make it easier to fit into your day, and it provides tips on cyber-safety that could help you at home as well as at work.
We all need council systems to work, so it’s important that we all know how to look after them.
