Most of us can probably remember what it felt like waiting for our own results. The main difference is that many of us had to spend a bit longer waiting, anxiously watching for the postie rather than refreshing our phones for a text message. The nerves, however, were probably exactly the same.
I know a number of colleagues will have young people in their families receiving results this week. Whether the outcomes were exactly what was hoped for or not, it is worth remembering that there are many different routes to success and many opportunities ahead. As you read this, I will have spent part of the week travelling to Islay and Jura. This trip, the Leader and I have been lucky enough to combine a meeting with Hannah Mary Goodlad, the new Minister for Public Finance, on Islay with community meetings on Jura. It’s a reminder that, while our geography can present challenges, it also creates opportunities to connect national discussions with the realities and aspirations of our island communities. Spending time in our communities always helps keep those conversations grounded in the places and people we serve.
