As Pippa said in last week’s newsflash, she is on leave this week and next, so it’s my turn to pick things up. I was minded to start with a quote which comes from (for those of you who are old enough to remember him) Rikki Fulton, the Rev. I.M.Jolly.
“HULLO! Do you ever get the feeling that life’s just one great disaster area? That, some mornings, you just shouldn’t get up? That everybody and everything is against you? … So do I!”
Thankfully, most days are not quite as bleak as the Rev. I.M. Jolly might suggest — even when things are busy, challenging or don’t quite go to plan. What continues to stand out is the way colleagues support one another, keep services moving, and bring good humour and commitment to the work we do every day. That makes a real difference, and it is very much appreciated.
And now for something completely different (spot the second quote from TV – I’m really showing my age now).
I attended the annual DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) Conference on 26th June at Mount Stuart on Bute. The theme was ‘a DYW decade creating sustainable pathways’ and Mount Stuart was an incredible venue for the event.
I particularly wanted to highlight the “No Wrong Path” national campaign which runs from 3rd – 7th August and encourages employers and professionals to share their career journeys — helping young people understand that there is no single route to success in their careers. I’d like to encourage colleagues, if you can find time, to take part by completing the template which can be accessed via this link. If you can send your completed form to dyw@argyll-bute.gov.uk for it to be shared on social media as part of the campaign.
I know some of you will be about to go on holiday – enjoy the break. For those of us still at home, the weather forecast for the weekend is promising, hope you all enjoy it, and have fun.
