The last full Council meeting took place yesterday before the summer recess.
Among the key decisions made, Councillor Ross Moreland will take on the role of Depute Leader of the Council, along with Councillor Audrey Forrest, following the sad passing of Councillor Robin Currie. Paying tribute to Robin’s work for Argyll and Bute, Councillor Moreland said, ‘I can’t fill his shoes but I can follow in his footsteps’.
Setting the council’s budget for next year was also on the agenda. Councillors agreed to set up a Budget Working Group again, bringing together Administration and Opposition councillors, to consider options for bridging next year’s estimated £8 million budget gap.
Generating income, spend-to-save projects, and reviewing earmarked reserves (budget set aside for specific projects) will all be priorities, and any options for service reductions or changes to how services are delivered.
