CEX update – supporting our communities to live well locally

Stacks of coins

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Argyll and Bute Council was in the news for increasing council tax as part of its budget, rather than freezing it in line with a Scottish Government announcement. The focus in setting the budget was on saving jobs and council services from cuts with an increase in council tax, the only way to address funding gaps.

We continue to be in the news this week as the council seeks support from the UK and Scottish Governments regarding funding for council services to enable people to live well locally. You may have seen that the Leader has written to the UK Government for support in ensuring that funding for councils reaches Argyll and Bute. Read more about this on the website.

Earlier today, the Deputy First Minister, Council Leader and Deputy Leader held positive discussions to discuss Argyll and Bute’s particular circumstances. Following the meeting, we have issued a statement.

I will update you as discussions progress.
