As we come to the end of another very warm week, we’re in the throes of UK’s third heatwave of the year. I hope you are all keeping well and managing to stay as cool as possible.
For colleagues working in Kilmory, particularly those on the top floor of the extension, I know conditions have been especially uncomfortable following an issue with the air conditioning system. My sympathies as a former top floor occupant!
Despite the heat, there has been a lot happening across Argyll and Bute this week, with Oban once again welcoming the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race as part of the 2025-26 event. The fleet began to arrive earlier in the week, between 10th and 13th July with the race start taking place on 19th July.
The week has also included Skerryvore at the Corran Halls, arranged by Live Argyll as part of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race celebrations and the Festival of the Sea.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Lochgilphead Family Fun Day takes place on Saturday 18 July from 10am to 4pm on the Front Green. The event includes a fun, street food, an artisan market, children’s activities, family entertainment and a licensed bar. It should be a great day for families, residents and visitors, and another opportunity to support local businesses and enjoy some community spirit here in Mid Argyll.
I would like to thank colleagues, partners, volunteers and community groups who have helped support events across Argyll and Bute this week. These occasions take a great deal of planning and effort, often behind the scenes, and they make a real difference to our communities and to the people who visit them.
For those of you heading off on leave, I hope you have a good break. For those working through the summer, thank you for everything you continue to do to keep services moving. Whatever your plans are for the weekend, I hope you manage to enjoy some fun in the sunshine.
