CEX update – weather work and progress

Standing up for Argyll and Bute and its communities is a key part of the role of Chief Executive and councillors.

We do that in different ways, from working through CoSLA, attending national forums, or raising the needs of the area directly with national Government.

This week a focus has been on calling for fair treatment for Argyll and Bute in relation to weather recovery. The main and very significant impact, on Argyll and Bute’s road and bridges infrastructure, homes and businesses, came from an unnamed storm. Other areas affected shortly after by Storm Babet are receiving recovery support from the Scottish Government that Argyll and Bute at the moment is not. The Leader of the council is taking the need for fair treatment directly to the area’s Parliamentarians and Scottish Government (link to press release to follow when issued).

Argyll and Bute needs us all to stand up for it in whatever ways we can. There’s a lot of competition for things the area needs, such as funding, people, skills, or tourism. If you use social media, a simple step you could take to raise the profile of the area is to be involved with our #abplace2b campaign – tag photos or comments with #abplace2b that show what makes Argyll and Bute a great choice.

The fantastic work, being done by our Roads and Infrastructure Service in restoring the road and bridge network continues, with the A816 emergency route on track for opening tomorrow at 1pm subject to any unforeseen issues. The success being achieved in getting roads and bridges re-opened is incredible, and appreciated by our communities. Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved!
