Changes to the parking payment app

Parking meters across Argyll and Bute offer different payment options, from contactless to Chip and PIN, cash and an app (payment by phone).

With increased cuts to the Council budget year on year, any surplus money raised from parking goes towards essential council services, including maintenance of car parks and roads and local amenity projects.

What is changing?

New UK legislation comes into effect next week that requires all online payment to include a secure customer authentication process. This is a two-step verification process, designed to protect customer information.

Argyll and Bute customers currently have access to the PaySmarti parking app. The suppliers are withdrawing the app from the market and it will not be available to use from 14 March.

A new improved app will launch later this spring. The app will make it easier to make payments and keep customer information safe.

How do I pay for parking?

The council has 92 parking meters offering a number of payment options. They include:

  • Contactless and chip and PIN payment at 64 meters
  • Cash – all meters
  • Payment by Phone – call 01604 210 933

Details of how to pay can be found on the council website https://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/paying-parking
