I’m writing this on Thursday evening and like most of you, I am making changes to my plans. A long weekend away, heading off in the car tomorrow morning, is now subject to a major rethink. We’ll be staying home until it’s safe to travel.
As you know, Storm Eowyn is expected to affect Scotland from 10am today. A Red weather warning is in force and the Police have issued “no travel” advice. All offices, depots and schools are closed.
You can find more information on our website about services.
Hopefully the impact won’t be as bad as expected but our focus has to be on keeping residents and all of you safe. One of the issues faced in October 2023 when we dealt with multiple landslips was the number of people who became stranded, requiring help from the emergency services. By staying out of harm’s way, we not only avoid injury, we avoid making the job of first responders any harder than it needs to be.
Most importantly, I want to thank you all for your adaptability and commitment. Moments like these highlight the strength of working together as One Council and our agility to respond to changing circumstances.
So please –
Prioritise your safety and wellbeing and that of our families
Stay connected for updates on the situation and any changes in advice
Do what you can to help your community, particularly any vulnerable neighbours
Take care and have a good weekend
Pippa
