Did you know we’re crunching the numbers to gain insights on how we provide school meals?
Our catering service is unique as we cater for schools that have rolls ranging from three to over 1,200 learners. Across all schools we need to ensure innovative solutions are in place and that all our locations are receiving high quality meals within our agreed food costs.
To gain more understanding of what’s happening across the schools the team in Commercial Services worked with the Data Programme Manager in Customer Support Services to build Power Bi reports with information relating to each location. Power Bi is an interactive software product that focuses on gathering business intelligence and it turns data into easy-to-read visuals and helps identify priorities and improvements to day-to-day work. The reports use information on school rolls, free school meal data, school meal uptake and purchasing and financial data. This allows the team to then drill down into each location and identify where there are any challenges, where we can improve purchasing, increase uptake and make sure we have the right staffing levels to provide ongoing services.
Although the project is still in its infancy and its possibilities are still be explored, it is turning data and evidence based decision making into real benefits for both our teams and our customers.
