What is a Digital Champion?

A Digital Champion is a friendly, approachable person who is willing to support others to learn new skills.

They are not trainers, they are colleagues who help other colleagues using Microsoft 365.

What is the role of a Digital Champion?

They will:

  • Provide support to colleagues when using Microsoft 365
  • Promote digital within their team
  • Know where to access support (training will be provided)
  • Help colleagues to improve confidence and motivation for digital skills

You can find out more in our role descriptor.

Who can be a Digital Champion?

Anyone can be a Digital Champion.

They are:

  • Friendly
  • Approachable
  • Willing to help colleagues
  • Good communicator
  • Willing to learn new skills

A Digital Champion does not need to know everything, but they do need to have the confidence to work out problems or ask others for help.

Why would I be a Digital Champion?

Microsoft 365 has a range of tools which can improve the way we do things, and working smarter will allow us to do more with less. As a Digital Champion, you would get the opportunity to help support the role out of Microsoft 365, including being given access to training.

It is a great development opportunity for anyone looking to gain new skills. Some of the benefits you will receive include:

  • Opportunity to get training on Microsoft 365, gain the skills you need to work smarter not harder, and share you knowledge with your colleagues
  • Participate in a network of other Digital Champions within the organisation – the opportunity to connect with other teams in the organisation
  • Gain new skills – this is an excellent development opportunity to improve your communication skills and gain new skills such as coaching
  • Undertake a digital SVQ – looking to undertake a qualification? As part of being a Digital Champion you could undertake a SVQ in Essential Skills for Digital Champions  at SCQF Level 6
What commitment is required to be a Digital Champion?
  • Being a Digital Champion should not take up a lot of your time
  • You will be required to complete digital champion training (available on LEON)
  • You will be offered the opportunity to undertake training on Microsoft 365 so you have the knowledge to support your colleagues
  • Digital meet-ups will also be held every 6 months and participation would be encouraged but not mandatory
  • On a day-to-day basis, you will support your colleagues as and when required
What support will I receive?

We have a number of Digital Motivators who will support you in your role. In addition you will be added to a Microsoft Teams site for Digital Champions where you will be able to ask questions and get support from other Digital Champions.

A toolkit will be provided alongside your training to ensure that you feel supported in the role.

Digital Champion meet-ups will allow you to meet virtually and share learning and best practice amongst each other. We will use these sessions to roll out additional training to support you when required.

What are the next steps?

If you want to be a Digital Champion, you need to speak to your line manager and get their authorisation prior to signing up.

You should then complete the sign up form.
