Trauma training

The Trauma Training Co-ordinator is delighted to be able to offer free and in-person multi-agency trauma training courses.

They are currently aimed at those who work across Argyll and Bute’s Adult/Children’s Services (Council, NHS, Third Sector and Public Services).

There are two different courses available:

  • Trauma Informed level
  • Trauma Skilled (Transforming Connections)

Please read the course information carefully and select the appropriate level of training. If you’re unsure, contact your manager.

We would really encourage managers to attend along with their staff where possible.

Trauma Informed Level

This course is for all staff (public facing or not) across Adult/Children’s Services.

Which includes (but not limited to):

  • Business support, admin, reception staff.
  • Wider school staff, including caterers, caretakers, people who provide transport for children, etc.

Training

The training (2 hrs) aims to:

  • Build a foundational understanding of trauma.
  • Look at self-care and how to support people affected by trauma.

Trauma Skilled (Transforming Connections)

This course is for all staff across Adult/Children’s Services who may come into contact with someone who has experienced trauma.

Which includes (but not limited to):

  • Managers, social work staff, teachers, early years practitioners.
  • Police staff, contact centre staff, advocacy service workers, midwives, health visitors, etc.

Anyone with a specific remit to intervene would also qualify for Trama Enhanced training, but are welcome to attend this.

Training

The training (1 day) developed by NES aims to:

  • Build on your existing trauma knowledge.
  • Develop your skills Trauma Responsive practice.

Those attending Trauma Skilled training do not need to do the Trauma Informed course first, but will need to complete the online Turas module Developing your Trauma Skill Practice 1 instead.

It is a foundational module which focuses on understanding the impact of trauma and responding in a trauma informed way. It is best to complete this module before going on to any other modules in the series. It takes about 60 – 75 minutes to complete.

You will also need to create an account on Turas.
