Being a Learning Council is all about learning from our experiences, understanding what works, what doesn’t and supporting each other to learn and develop in our jobs. We know how important it is to enable our people to learn and progress throughout their careers.

Claire, HR
Claire has put her learning into practice through her varied role with the council.
“I am incredibly grateful for the council’s support throughout my CIPD Level 5 Diploma in Learning and Development. The organisation has been instrumental in my success, providing financial support for the qualification and allowing me the flexibility to dedicate time to my studies. My managers and colleagues were also a great source of encouragement and guidance.
The diploma has significantly expanded my understanding of key learning and development principles, from designing effective learning programmes to evaluating their impact. I have also gained practical skills that allow me to create initiatives aligned with organisational goals and employee growth.
As I progress in my career, I have used these skills to contribute more effectively to our strategic objectives by developing innovative business solutions that enhance employee engagement, build capability and support the council’s commitment to excellence in service delivery.”
Alison, Legal and Regulatory Services
Alison was due to study nursing when she left school but didn’t want to move to the city. After postponing her place for a year to
consider what she wanted to do, she joined the council as a clerical and then admin assistant and continues to develop her role.
“Postponing my nursing course was the best decision for me as it opened up so many opportunities for me with the council and I could stay in Argyll and Bute. In 2015, I had the opportunity to undertake an HNC in Business part-time. Having this chance, gave me the confidence to apply for my role as Assistant Compliance and Regulatory Officer in 2020. This role has again opened up further opportunities to progress my career and I’ve now completed my Practitioner’s Certificate in Scottish Freedom of Information, Practitioner’s Certificate in Data Protection and am studying for a Records Management qualification. These certificates enabled me to gain a promoted post within the team. When I was 16, I believed the only way to succeed was by moving to the city. Now, I feel grateful for the many opportunities I have received throughout my employment. I appreciate the people who believed in me and the Council for investing in my future.”
