World Gaelic Week starts on Monday 24 February and many schools, community groups, and businesses across Argyll and Bute will be getting involved.

From coffee mornings and careers events to ceilidhs and celebrating local culture and heritage – there’s something for everyone.

Established in 2022 and funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Seachdain na Gàidhlig (World Gaelic Week) celebrates Scottish Gaelic across the world and aims to raise the profile of Gaelic through community initiatives, school engagement, projects, and events.

Argyll and Bute Council’s Policy Lead for Gaelic, Councillor Audrey Forrest, said: “The Gaelic language has played an important part in Argyll and Bute’s history for hundreds of years so it is great to see so many events taking place to mark World Gaelic Week and help raise awareness in our communities.

“Whether you’re a fluent Gaelic speaker, or are just starting your Gaelic learning journey, World Gaelic Week is a great opportunity to get involved and I would urge everyone to find out what is happening in their area by either visiting the World Gaelic Week website, the Argyll Gaelic Forum Facebook page, or by emailing the council’s Gaelic team at gaelic@argyll-bute.gov.uk .”
