CEX Update – holiday season

travel app on phone screen

‘What can we do today?’ is a question asked often at this time of year with summer holiday season in full swing (although the weather doesn’t seem to have realised yet, does it!)

As with so many different aspects of life in Argyll and Bute, the council can help with answers to that question.

For example our Active Travel team has produced apps to take you on tours of ‘known and hidden treasures’ of Argyll and Bute.

With the help of services across the council, the international Clipper Round the World Yacht Race comes to Oban from 12 to 21 July, and events are planned in the week ahead.

You can also find information on our website to help you ‘have a great time and be a great visitor’ if you’re touring round the area.

Pass on the message

Sorting out school uniforms, for pupils going back in August, can be another part of the holiday season that’s not easy for many.

Did you know … school clothing grants are available for eligible pupils, and our school uniform scheme makes pre-loved uniforms available for people who need them.

If you know anyone who could benefit from the grants or the scheme, it would be great if you would pass on the message that they are there.

And if you have good quality school uniforms you no longer need, why not find out about passing them on, through the scheme, to someone who could use them.

As well as helping families and young people, this could play a part in helping to protect council services, and develop climate-friendly ways of living, by supporting our ‘reduce, re-use, recycle’ aims – if we buy less, get more use out of what we have, and recycle more, we will reduce what the council has to spend on sending our waste to landfill, and we will reduce our own impact on the natural resources we need to live. Thanks.

Coming up

With the UK General election now over, our attention is focusing on next week’s by-election for the Kintyre and Islands Ward.

Organising elections takes a lot of work from a lot of people across the council. You can read about delivering ballot boxes by land, sea and air for election. Thank you to everyone involved.

Wishing you all a great weekend.
