Oban has been a little busier than usual this week as senior leaders from councils and public bodies across Scotland gathered for the SOLACE Scotland conference. As Chair of SOLACE, I have been proud to see Argyll and Bute hosting conversations about some of the biggest issues facing public services.
Beyond the conference programme itself, bringing colleagues here helps them better understand the realities of serving rural and island communities. Seeing our places, meeting local organisations and experiencing the geography that shapes so much of what we do provides valuable context that cannot always be captured in reports or presentations.
It has been a useful reminder that while the challenges facing public services are shared across Scotland, the solutions need to reflect the communities and places we serve.
Have a lovely weekend.
