CEX update – shared priorities

A ferry sailing across a stretch of water with houses and hills in the background.

Today I’m at a meeting of the Community Planning Management Committee. The Community Planning Partnership (CPP) in Argyll and Bute brings together local partners—including the council, health services, emergency services, the third sector, community representatives and more—to work collaboratively on shared priorities. By aligning resources and focusing on what matters most to our communities. It helps deliver better outcomes, tackle inequalities, and make the best use of public funds. It’s a key way we ensure that local voices shape decisions, and that we build thriving, resilient places across our unique and diverse area.

One of the key roles of the CPP is to deliver the Argyll and Bute Outcome Improvement Plan (ABOIP). The new ABOIP was published in February 2024 following an extensive consultation with individuals and community planning partners. Almost 2,000 residents took part in our ‘Improving Lives in Argyll and Bute’ survey and analysis of the results has identified the outcomes of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Community Wellbeing, as the most important to people in the area.

Today we’re focussed on transport and developing more detailed actions that will help us to improve transport infrastructure by:

  • Working with partners and communities to create a reliable, accessible, affordable and integrated public transport system for Argyll and Bute
  • Working with partners and communities to ensure a resilient, well-maintained and safe road and active travel network across Argyll and Bute
  • Working with partners to enhance provision of bespoke transport services for those experiencing the greatest inequality in ease of movement
  • Contributing to local and national strategic transport plans to ensure the needs of communities experiencing inequalities in transport infrastructure are acknowledged and addressed
  • Co-producing partners’ plans for elements relating specifically to tackling inequalities in transport infrastructure

We talk a lot about how the council can’t achieve everything alone and the collaboration that the CPP enables is a great example of partnership working in action. This is made possible by the commitment of all the partner organisations and communities who get involved and take a One Argyll and Bute approach.

You can find more information and listen to the new CPP Podcast.

Have a lovely weekend.
