What else? It’s amazing how big a difference this little question can make if you’re having conversations about ideas or views of something. It can keep a discussion going and prompt more useful suggestions if you ask it when people sometimes think they have nothing more to add.
This is the kind of thing you can learn from training in coaching. Coaching for business is about solving problems through the conversations we have with each other. It’s about chatting together which can be especially welcome when so many work on-line at home. And it’s about helping individual employees to progress or contribute as they’d like to at work.
As part of the Connect for Success principle of empowering employees, we are offering training in coaching for our managers, so that we can use coaching conversations to benefit each other.
Getting decisions made
Council Committee meetings are starting up again next week after the summer recess. Councillors will consider reports about matters ranging from a visitor levy to climate change initiatives, at a Special Council meeting and a Policy and Resources Committee. You can find out more on the website.
Putting reports to Council Committees is an important step in getting key decisions made. If you are involved in writing committee reports, please note that the Governance Team has updated the report template to make it as accessible as possible. The template for use is on the Hub, where you can also find updated guidance on writing and presenting reports.
Back to school
Next week will be a big week too for our young people – and our teachers – with schools going back after the holidays. If your son or daughter is starting primary or secondary school, here are some tips that might be of use, from Linda Candlish, Deputy Head Teacher of Colgrain Primary. Thanks Linda.
Wishing you all a great weekend.
