“Our school cleaners, janitors and kitchen staff are literally saving lives” – Professor Jason Leitch

School catering staff

Education staff across Argyll and Bute have made a huge effort as pupils return to school. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to make sure both staff and pupils are safe within the school environment.

During February and March 2021 Education Scotland, in partnership with COSLA, Public Health Scotland and trades unions/professional organisations, hosted 3  Public Health ‘Big Blether’ events.

Jayne Jones, Commercial Manager, Customer Services asked Professor Jason Leitch what he would like to convey to frontline staff.

He replied:

“I genuinely can’t thank our school teams enough – they are literally saving lives. They are a big part of the whole response from the first person with the key opening up in the morning to the last person leaving at night. Our cleaners, janitors and kitchen staff are key to the safe running of our schools.”
