Under the Parental Bereavement (Leave and Pay) Act 2018, from the 6th April 2020, parents who suffer a still birth from 24 weeks of pregnancy, or the loss of a child under the age of 18, will be entitled to 2 weeks Parental Bereavement Leave.
With effect from 1.4.2023 Argyll and Bute Council has extended the eligibility for this leave to parents who suffer a miscarriage or loss of pregnancy in the period up to 24 weeks in order that parents who suffer a loss of pregnancy at any stage can apply.
The two weeks Parental Bereavement Leave will be paid at the normal rate of pay regardless of length of service, subject to completion of the Notification of Parental Bereavement Leave form.
Please note that the 2 weeks Parental Bereavement Leave provision is not in addition to the entitlement to 1 weeks general bereavement leave following the death of a close relative.
For more information on parental bereavement leave, please refer to the Council’s parental leave guidance on the council’s intranet.
