Recruiting managers – important reminder

During the pandemic, the Home Office allowed digital checks of proof of identify for the recruitment process. This process has now ended with immediate effect and we must revert to checking original documentation to ensure that every successful candidate is eligible to work in the UK.

We can still choose to interview candidates online or in person, however the recruiting manager (or as delegated) must now verify the original documentation in the presence of the holder. This can be a physical presence in person or via a live video link. In both cases you must be in physical possession of the original documents.

Not checking if candidates are eligible to work in the UK can result in a £20,000 fine and possible criminal convictions, so it is vital for us all to follow the new guidelines.
