- Argyll and Bute Council has a role to play in guiding young people in their future careers. Getting involved in school engagement is an opportunity to promote the careers and opportunities available within Argyll and Bute Council to young people as they contemplate their career aspirations and future.
- As an employer we have agreed to engage with our schools to provide support and collaboration for our young people.
- There are a number of ways in which you can participate in school engagement activities:
- Career talks at school events
- Attending career events to promote the council and jobs within your service
- Work placements for young people
- Careers events take place in all Argyll and Bute locations throughout the year. The HROD team can arrange attendance at these events. | Hermitage Academy Workshops | Hermitage Academy has created a programme of running and facilitating workshops for its pupils about local government job roles and career paths. The school are looking for council representatives to run short workshops for its senior pupils anytime before Christmas, as well as workshops for S3 pupils throughout Scottish Careers Week (10th-14th of November). The a workshops should cover the following: 1. What types of roles are there in your field? 2. What does a day in your job look like? 3. What’s good/bad about it? 4. How did you get there? 5. What skills/experience do I need? PLUS, some interactive/hands-on activity to give pupils a small glimpse of what the job might involve. | September – December 2025 (subject to council services availability) |

| MCR Pathways Event – Oban High School | This careers afternoon is aimed at care experienced pupils and those with additional support needs. | MAK STEM fest event – Campbeltown | MAK STEM Fest is a one-day careers event aimed at S2 pupils and brings together companies whose operations and apprenticeship schemes call for employees with STEM skills. The day is designed around a mini-conference approach, giving young delegates the chance to meet employers and find out first-hand about different learning and career paths that could lead them to jobs in STEM, as well as getting to take part in a number of fun and informative interactive workshops.
