Standing up for Argyll and Bute

Standing up for Argyll and Bute, and for this council, is increasingly important as competition in effect for public sector funding, and for people to deliver services, remains high.

We are taking action of different kinds in response.

For example, in advance of councils setting their budgets in February, our Council Leader continues to work with other Scottish councils through CoSLA to secure more funding from the Scottish Government. You can read more about that on our website.

CoSLA continues to run its social media ‘#thisislocalgovernment’ campaign, showing how vital local government services are in people’s lives. The campaign uses short video clips highlighting services in action. I’d love to see the services of this council get credit through the campaign, so if you would like more information, or would like to get involved, please do let me know.

As part of promoting Argyll and Bute as a great place to live and work, we continue to run our budget-free #abplace2b campaign. When we’re recruiting, we often view the job advert as the first step. To beat competition for the skills Argyll and Bute needs, we really need to view it almost as the last step – the first is to showcase the area and council as great choices, so that potential candidates are already interested when vacancies are advertised. Thanks to everyone who is supporting the campaign by using #abplace2b – please keep up the good work.

And I continue to invite employees and partners to join me for a chat in my podcast, to highlight the differences you are making for the council and area. If you would like to get involved, I’d be pleased to hear from you.

In this week’s podcast I am delighted to speak with Jodie Hoey, a science teacher from Oban High School, who was selected to represent Scotland in the 2022 Commonwealth Powerlifting Federation Championships in New Zealand, having only taken up the sport during the Covid-19 pandemic. Well done Jodie, what a great achievement!

You are welcome to get in touch with me at workingtogether@argyll-bute.gov.uk about anything I have mentioned here.

Have a great weekend.
