Argyll and Bute Council has its own Training Centre which delivers Scottish Vocational Qualifications, Professional Development Awards and Modern Apprenticeship programmes. The Centre is approved by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA).
Over the years the Council has specifically provided Health and Social Care SVQ’s that are specific to Social Work employees. However, the Council has recognised the importance of delivering robust programmes which will ensure a skilled workforce for the future. Therefore, the Centre has expanded to provide a wider range of qualifications in order to meet the needs of the organisation.
We continue to support Social Work employees in line with the required registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
See all of our available courses in the course list below.
Within Argyll and Bute Council and in accordance with SQA requirements, staff who wish to train as an assessor for the above awards now have the opportunity to do so with their managers approval.
Any staff wishing to undertake the assessors award must be occupationally competent in the units which they will assess, and be knowledgeable about legislation and codes of practice in relation to health and social care settings. Their competence and experience should be demonstrated through evidence of continuing professional development. This could be demonstrated through the possession of a relevant qualification and/or experience — for example, Social Work Qualification, Registered Nurse, SVQ 4, HNC and SVQ 3, or equivalents, combined with a minimum of two years experience in a care setting.
To meet the criteria staff must be currently competent in the award they are assessing.
To find out more about SVQ training requirements please contact Sharon Atkinson, Improvement and Organisational Development Project Officer. Sharon.atkinson@argyll-bute.gov.uk or telephone 01369 70 8507.
Within Argyll and Bute Council and in accordance with SSSC guidelines it has been agreed that this qualification meets SSSC registration requirements for permanent senior social care staff in adult care homes.
However if the senior has already achieved SVQ 3 it is sufficient to complete HSC 43 & 451 to meet SSSC registration requirements.
To find out more about SVQ training requirements please contact Sharon Atkinson, Improvement and Organisational Development Project Officer. Sharon.atkinson@argyll-bute.gov.uk or telephone 01369 70 8507.
