Wellbeing Wednesday – 30 June 2021

Jane FowlerJane Fowler – Head of Customer Support Services

Happy World Wellbeing Wednesday! I hope some of you have managed to take advantage of the Wellbeing Week activities that have been organised this last week – I am looking forward to our lunchtime wellbeing walk at Kilmory today.

As you will be aware, Covid cases are rising again.  Whilst many of us have already been vaccinated we do still need stay aware and carry on with our Lateral Flow Tests to check our infection status.  Cases are rising at the moment all over Scotland and the UK, and Argyll and Bute is no exception.

We are all very restricted in being able to travel abroad for our summer holidays this year, but there are so many fantastic places to visit and activities to take part in locally.  I hope that you enjoy your break and even if the weather is not great, we all know how to dress for it! I start my staycation this Friday and I am looking forward to spending time walking, gardening and generally enjoying Argyll, the long evenings and the amazing scenery and seascapes.

Take care all and see you soon!

Celebrating Pride Month

Pride MonthJune is Pride Month and again things are a little different from normal this year.  Even although we are starting to see the lifting of lockdown restrictions, mass gatherings and the usual pride marches are still on hold, however this is still an important time for celebration and reflection.

person in rainbow coloursPride month reminds us to salute the LBGT+ community and to reflect on who they are and how far they have come on the journey from exclusion and intolerance to acceptance and inclusion.   Reflection also reminds us that the journey is not yet complete, with progress still to be made.

This year we are encouraged to fly our rainbow flags whilst adhering to social distancing requirements, and we will turn to the internet and social media as a way to be together in virtual celebration, in order to share our history and to learn from each other.

Covid-19 Testing – help keep infection rates low – take a test!

Help stop the spread of Covid-19 in Argyll and Bute. Around 1 in 3 people with the virus don’t show any symptoms. With cases rising in the area, it’s more important than ever to volunteer for a test – even if you don’t have symptoms and you have already been vaccinated.

There are a number of ways you can get tested including walk-in centres and ordering free home test kits. By voluntarily taking a test, we can keep infection rates low and avoid further restrictions.
Read more about community testing and how to order your free kits here.
